I didn't think I'd bought many food books this year and yet I have 4 of those! I am definitely feeling the lack of Diana Henry for the last couple of years though.

There are always the recipes she writes for the Telegraph, Delicious, Waitrose etc. Worth keeping an eye on her instagram!

I’ve been enjoying the OTK Extra Good Things for interesting ideas and combinations. Probably slightly too project-y for some but I like the flavour combinations. For inspiration if nothing else.

Catherine Phipps’s Modern Pressure Cooking is a worthy successor to her first book on the subject and is a complete game changer for pressure cooker refuseniks.

Sneaky of me as published in 2021 but I only got it in 2022 and no one seems to have heard of it, Is the New York Times Cooking No Recipe Recipes by Sam Sifton. It gives you the ingredients and not the amounts so that you have to use your own judgement. The writing is superb, humorous and clear I could go on but I won’t .

Thanks for this list. I need to check out Butter.

I am definitely a pressure cooker refusenik although I've resolved to remedy that in 2023. Her book looks great.

I did dither over whether to include OTK Extra Good Things - love the idea of their 'everything seasoning'. So many good extras. It was definitely on my long list.

Will look out the Sam Sifton book but yes, 2021 is cheating 😉

Oh, I bought the Phipps book for my husband who loves using the pressure cooker - great to know it’s that good.

Mezcla is divided into two halves, with the first half definitively not being “project” recipes. I’ve made most of this section (they’re a doddle) and several from the second section (much easier than they first appear) so please don’t feel it’s a hard work cookbook! It’s my* book of 2022.

*me, a lazy cook

Even those are quite ingredient-heavy and some of the ingredients hard to find even in a city as big as Bristol. Love the taste of her food though. I made the sticky coconut rice cake with turmeric tomatoes which was delicious

Ha, if you think Bristol’s problematic I’m in rural Northumberland! Yes, her food tastes fabulous - it’s eclectic and original too which is decidedly exciting. I’ve cooked the chicken with pineapple and ‘nduja for a few people now and they’ve all asked for the recipe.

Some great shouts in here! Got Jeremy Lee for Christmas and am diving in with the chicken and pumpkin dish for new year ... May need to look out Butter too.

One not on this list that’s well worth looking out for is On Vegetables by Josh Katz (of Berber & Q) which is just brilliant - not only great recipes that really work (most of which don’t require a bbq) but some helpful thoughts on approaches to cooking, substitutions and small tips on food prep that can make all the difference (soaking onions once sliced before using them in a salad which tones down the harshness).

Haven't got that one but agree, I love a book that's full of good hacks and tips!
