We avoid it. Once your partner has had to bathe you, brush your hair, shave your legs and feed you during cancer treatments and surgeries- you realize that is what true romance is. Not gifts one day a year.

I'm sure. That's deep love.

I think each person (or couple) needs to come to what romance means for them. I had a friend whose boyfriend proposed in a dinner jacket with candle light and a dozen red roses. She thought it was amazing and wonderful. But for me that felt incredibly generic and tacky - good thing I didn't have to marry him - and prefer it when my husband does something that shows he knows very specifically who I am.

Fair point, Alicia. My husband used to bring me obscure cookery books he'd ferreted out in second hand bookshops which most people, I suspect, would hardly regard as romantic!

That’s lovely. It was about you rather than a gesture which is the most romantic thing.

I like V day but never go out for dinner on it

I think that's very romantic.... Apart from not agreeing with your choice of Daniel Craig, (too young, too arrogant), I absolutely agree that someone who is there through thick and thin and makes tea or sees something they know you will love and just gets it for you is far preferable. I have always insisted that I don't get flowers on Valentine's Day as so many places hike the prices up to cash in. Chocs and champagne are always welcome 😁

Actually the day AFTER V-Day is a great time to buy flowers 😉

Ignore it and thankfully my wife feels the same, stronger than me if anything. I’ve bought her some nice cheese and she has bought me nothing. Works for us and I’ve never been happier.

This is more in reference to your budding grasp of the Spanish language, Fiona! "Guapo." Just love that word. In our little town if a handsome guy walked by a couple girls, you'd often hear after he was 'just' out of earshot, "Hmm, que guapo." But I saw a wonderfully clever designer license plate in CA that I have to share: K GUAPO. It made me laugh. Very clever indeed. (and I wished my name was Kay).

Very good point Deb! I was going to say tell the people you love - parents, kids, best friends you love them but you’ve taken further than that. Happy Valentine’s Day to you too!
