Unless you’ve been with me since Day 1 of my Substack and assiduously reading every post there’s a fair chance you won’t have read something I wrote 12 months or even 2 years ago - or forgotten it if you did so - I thought I’d remind you of some of my more popular posts.
Actually sometimes I’ve forgotten I’ve written them too and it comes as a nice surprise to read them again, especially if they provoked a lively discussion.
Oddly Substack doesn’t always pin the most popular posts on the home page. I queried why my post on your most treasured - and battered -cookbooks didn’t appear on the list and it’s apparently because they prioritise paid-for posts like the Friday 5. Anyway do read it if you haven’t and tell me about yours.
Here are six others you might enjoy:

And what I’ve learned from two years on Substack
A few tips for those of you who have just started one
As you may - or may not - know Substack is a platform that enables readers to pay writers directly which has become increasingly important given the low rates that many journalists and authors can now command
If you’d like to support my writing you could do two things:Â
One is to give posts you enjoy a ‘like’ which helps to get my Substack a bigger audience.Â
And the other is to take out a monthly or annual subscription. For this you get access to my weekly wine, recipe and restaurant recommendations and my monthly online wine tastings and become eligible for my monthly cookbook giveaways.
It’s not a great deal for whole load of useful and moneysaving info, tips and advice - just £5 ($6.55/€5.93) a month or £42 ($55/€49.84) a year which works out at £3.50 ($4.58/€4.15) a month or 80p - just over a dollar or less than a euro - a week. The wine recs alone could save you that.
Plus you can comment and chat about all the posts not just the free ones. There are some lovely people on here to hang out with.

It is refreshing to see such a broad range of topics thoughtfully revisited in your Substack. Your honest and approachable style makes each post a treat to read, even when touching on everyday challenges like cutting down on alcohol or managing weight.
