What does retirement look like when you’re a writer?
Quick answer: not much like retirement at all
For those of you expecting a Friday 5 today, apologies. I can’t honestly claim that five new things of note have caught my attention this week.
It’s been very much the usual Christmas, and none the worse for it. Overcatering, overeating, the odd walk, slumping in front of the telly watching cheesy Christmas movies. Yours too, I’m sure.
You might want to look at the well-loved cookbook challenge to see if there’s anything you might want to make in these odd few days between Christmas and the New Year.
On the other hand if your family is anything like mine you’ve probably got so much food in the fridge the last thing you want to do is go shopping and cook something from scratch.
So it’s time for the obligatory review of the year which was a big one for me as you know, giving up the Guardian wine column after 14 years. A decision I’ve never regretted. However that hasn’t meant giving up work. Basically I’m working almost as hard and I do occasionally ask myself why.
