Love this! We used to attend a similar community cooking club called Band of Bakers in SE London, such diverse recipes every month (and a guaranteed sugar high on a Wednesday night!)

Oh, I heard about that one. Sounded great though would have been slightly out of my depth on that one!

I mean, if you want a mixologist for your next dinner, I'm up for coming to Bristol...

More seriously, that looks really fun! Food for thought for me, for sure. I have a pretty big kitchen and it feels a little wasteful to just cook for two.

Not wasteful definitely but cooking in a group adds a whole other dimension!

yes we did something similar but as a wine and food pairing evening - the host chose a wine theme - then each couple brought a wine and a dish ( preferably home made) to pair with their wine

Then we tasted each wine and dish in turn - starting with white wine - 6 couples -

That’s a really fun variation

I think about starting something monthly. I MISS this (and my gang) more than anything else about Bristol. Though I miss it all. Imagine having done it before (and done it so well, mostly thanks to you)..and yet feeling this intimidated about starting it up again. Maybe I’m worried I won’t find people who take it as seriously as me!! Some big memories for me include stuffing pork dumplings in Jenny’s, maybe 80 or so..into hand rolled wonton wrappers..luke suspending a labneh in his coat closet, having 5 BBQ’s ‘delivered’ to our garden despite living on a terrace, 2 of which were big green eggs..what about key lime pie to the rescue!! Emma. She nailed it. Ah, the memories. Hope you’re well. X

We MISS you so much! Should have mentioned your dumplings which were an absolute tour de force! Find some foodie mates and do one in Galway!

Lovely idea. I have hosted cookery lessons from my house (in SW France) but this sounds like more fun. I think Barney is my great friend Liz”s brother. We met at Salisbury art college many moons ago. Small cookery world.

Thanks for sharing the idea. Louise

Yes he is! And she is on Substack now too. It really is great fun

Such a lovely idea. And probably a cookbook or a Substack in it had you been/if you start taking notes more rigorously!

What a wonderful idea. Anyone near Oundle with a big enough kitchen (I'm in a usless shoebox), I'm in, I'll bring wine.

Our ‘Saturday Cooks’ sessions grew out of the late lamented Borough Market Cookbook Club that was hosted by @angelaclutton. We meet every couple of months at my place as I live alone and have space for 6-7 at lunchtime. We choose a theme and everyone brings a dish to share and chat about. A WhatsApp group chat ensures we don’t get 6 puddings and wine seems to appear too. Leftovers are rarely an issue … Such fun with food !

My sister is in a cookbook club, which was originally themed around a book, then just became a bit of a free for all and one lady always does chicken and it’s always dry 🤣

This sounds like so much fun! I’ve been wanting to start a cooking gang for years… but I worry I might be a bit too controlling for it to be a success. 😅

Yes, it is..... I do enjoy dipping in and out. I wish I could manage to post more often.
