A year ago today I met my partner (cue, obviously, for a celebration (which we’re having in the same restaurant with the mutual friend who introduced us! ).
We both remember talking non-stop for five hours, already realising that this was something special.
The surprise might be that we don’t actually live together - or even near each other and I suspect that’s one of the reasons it’s worked so well.
We’re not alone. Living apart together or LAT, as its known, is becoming increasingly common. About 10% of couples that are in a relationship live in separate households according to this report from researchers at University College London, with it being the most popular option for over 60s who form a new relationship.
It many advantages at our stage of life. (I’m in my late 70s, he’s just passed 80.)
