So what’s this five-and-a-half business you might be wondering? Well, you may remember I was unduly excited about the deep-fried Welsh rarebit they had on the menu at the new branch of St John? Well this week I got to try it.
And …?
I can’t say I loved it. I’d somehow imagined it would still be on toast or at least bread but it had this almost Scotch-egg like shell like a giant croqueta. So I’d stick to the classic St John rarebit if I were you which is a very fine thing indeed and which you can easily rustle up at home .
(I did absolutely LOVE St J Marylebone’s squash and bacon soup though. Best soup I’ve had all year, in a restaurant at least.)
Obviously I can’t really count this as one of my five as I’ve already mentioned it so let’s crack on with the rest of ‘em.
