The Friday 5 #81
Christmas bakes, puds and sides, some amazing deals at Aldi and a sublime wine to go with your turkey
Well, hello everybody! It was great to see those of you who made it on Monday for the special Christmas edition of our monthly zoom tasting and to see what everyone was planning to drink over the holiday.
I felt mild regrets about cracking open the bottle I pulled out of the rack which I now wish I’d saved for the actual day it was so delicious. I’ve made it my #finewinefriday choice this week if you want to try and get hold of a bottle.
The big news this week though is that Aldi has discounted prices on 72 of its own label Specially Selected wines (which is news because Aldi doesn’t normally do discounts).
The headline reduction was the Cairanne which was reduced from £8.99 to £3.49 and which has already been rationed to 2 bottles - assuming you can get hold of it.
Bear in mind that not all the reductions are that big. The Specially Selected Toscana Rosso is only reduced by 20p from £9.69 to £9.49 and not an outstanding bargain at that price. And I wouldn’t buy the Bowler & Brolly English sparkling wine even at £12.69!
Here are the ones I would go for
