The Friday 5 #186
4 lush white wines under £10, this month’s cookbook giveaway and where to stop for a bite that isn't Greggs
In a typically British fashion - we do tend to be mildly hysterical about the weather - we behave as if the current wave of heatwaves is unprecedented. But looking back on my Substack posts from previous summers I see I’ve written about them every year.
For example almost exactly 4 years ago in 2022 temperatures hit 37°C, a cue to post three useful recipes for iced coffee, white sangria and frosé.
Can I count them as three of my Friday 5 as my brain still isn’t fully in gear since getting back on Wednesday night?
I can’t? Well, fair enough but do check them out anyway!
Let’s start with the wine recs cos I’m sure you’ve been missing them, followed by some tips for our forthcoming aperitif tasting, this month’s cookbook giveaway (Barney Desmazery’s excellent One Dish Four Ways) and where to stop for a bite on a road trip that isn’t Greggs.
Oh and if you haven’t spotted it do read my post about the things that annoy me about hotel rooms having stayed in 9 different hotels and B & B’s this past fortnight. Seems like many of you are on the same page. (Great comments, by the way. Love them!)
It’s free to read cos I love to give people the opportunity to have a rant.
