A brilliant English chardonnay discovery, a drinkable alcohol-free rosé (hurray!) and why a potato sandwich is a great idea
I feel slightly embarrassed to admit I’ve never been to Glastonbury. Not that I’m not interested - I’ll be glued to the sofa all weekend - but camping, even glamping - has never appealed even when the forecast is sunny.
What will I drink on said sofa? Well most probably English wine, it being the last weekend of English Wine Week.
You can see my top picks from the Fortnums tasting earlier this week below including a chardonnay that absolutely knocked my socks off. Full marks to them for taking on such a large and wide-ranging selection.
By the way the headline grabbing £9.99 offer on Aldi’s Bowler & Brolly sparkling wine is finished now so don’t head there specially to pick that up. Not that I would have done anyway. English wine isn’t and shouldn’t be a bargain. I’ll explain why below.
In other news I’ve been trying to think of 101 things to do with tomatoes, rediscovering the joys of smørrebrød (without even going to Copenhagen) and finding an alcohol-free wine - well, sort of - that I’d actually be prepared to drink. From a somewhat unlikely source …
Oh and my top tips about renewing your passport should you need to do so. It really wasn’t that painful. Honestly.
