Le Friday 5 #95
Some fabulously posh (but affordable) French food, a total keeper of a chicken recipe and this weekend’s wine bargains.
It’s been a bit of a weird week tbh. No-one organises anything the fortnight after Easter now so no tastings, no events … You have to - gah! - make your own entertainment. Which admittedly involved going to one of the best French restaurants I’ve been to for a while. (Well since Bouchon Racine, anyway.) And it wasn’t in France …
I cooked a fair bit though. I rustled up another quick 2 ingredient pasta sauce and a fantastic chicken dish from my friend Claire’s most recent cookbook (more about both below).
And I’m REALLY looking forward to seeing some of you for my first food and wine matching masterclasses tomorrow and, for those of you who can’t make it, our online tasting next Thursday which will teach you how to make chic aperitifs. (Aperitif queen Kate Hawkings will be in attendance.) I’ll send through a few suggestions of bottles to buy on Sunday/maybe Monday.
I’ve written about Italian whites in the Guardian this week so check that and the suggestions below for weekend drinking.
(You need to be a paid subscriber to get all my food and wine recs but that can cost as little as £3.50 a month or just over 80p a week. And you’ll easily make that up on the savings you’ll make on the wines I recommend.)
